KIMCHIDRAMA SUM:
One of the highest-rated dramas of the past decade, Baker King is a powerhouse blend of underdog tale, family saga, and romance. Kim Tak Goo (Yoon Shi Yoon) grows up the street-smart son of a struggling single mother. When he's 12 years old, however, he discovers that he is the illegitimate son of Goo Il Jong (Jun Kwang Ryul), the president of massive baking company Samhwa Enterprise. Hoping for a better life for her son, his mother sends him to his father and then mysteriously disappears. Tak Goo winds up out on the streets and twelve years later, he's a cocky ruffian on a desperate search for his lost mother. While searching for his mother he winds up at a bakery run by Master Pal Bong (Jang Hang Sun), his father's former mentor. After revealing his natural talent for baking, he becomes Pal Bong's apprentice, alongside the unpleasant Ma Joon (Joo Won), who is hiding the fact that he's Il Jong's (legitimate) son. Meanwhile beautiful, haunted Yoo Kyung (Eugene), Tak Goo's first love, reappears in his life, while Pal Bong's charming granddaughter, Mi Sun (Lee Young Ah), falls for him too. Birth secrets, class tensions, lies, love, and rivalry abound in this drama, but at the heart of it all is one young man's quest to overcome his past and find happiness against all odds.
